First, Check disk space which can cause VSS to fail if low. Restart the VSS Service. Reboot host the VM. Guys, We just updated to 9.5U3 earlier this week and noticed the frequency of the backup on Exchange 2010 failing with this error.

I know this is not an ideal configuration, but he cannot afford another Windows Server license and while I'm happy gifting him my time I obviously can't go gifting Windows licenses. When the backup is preparing the VM I get the message "Unable to release guest. Error: VSSControl: Failed to freeze guest over network, wait timeout".

I already set the Preperation Timeout to 1,8M seconds (30 Minutes) The Srv runs on Server 2008 R2 Entpr. SP1, 64 Bit, virtual on an esx Its an Exchange server ...
