Today I received a Unifi Security Gateway (USG) which amongst other things can act as the DHCP server for your network (in fact, it's a bit tricky to get it working just right without it being the DHCP server!) The DHCP options in the Ubiquiti Unifi UI do not allow you to enter a domain name, but this is quite a common requirement.
In the end I just setup a dns container on the docker host with the custom names needed for the MacVLAN IP's, and set the dns server to use the USG as a forwarder. Added the container dns server IP to the DHCP setup in Unifi so all the machines could resolve each others names.
