· 1y Owncloud is opensource. nextcloud is a fork of owncloud. It started because one of the co-founders of owncloud disagreed with the direction. So, he and many devs left owncloud to start nextcloud. Why is nextcloud more discussed? When they started, they did a lot of talking about community and more opensource things like that.
08.10.2019 · It's not the same thing as the other two: Nextcloud is for syncing files between the Nextcloud-server and whatever other devices you have and keeping them in sync automatically. UnRaid, FreeNAS etc. are OSes, they handle the actual physical hardware. You install Nextcloud on top of an OS, it's not an OS itself. WereCatf thanks for the correction.
20.01.2017 · Do you wait until there is a note in unRAID's GUI Docker page about an available update? I recall getting into trouble and breaking the Docker (cant recall if it was Owncloud or Nextcloud) by trying to upgrade via the Nextcloud web UI. I just setup a new unRAID server for a good friend of mine that wants to use it for work.
03.06.2020 · Thanks for this, was just looking in to Owncloud, discovered it was abandoned by most of it's devs in favor of nextcloud. I think I'll wait to switch over from a traditional cloud provider though for my data until you're not calling it beta any more, though.
