But when I try to target it for a backup job, I get "access is denied". Does anyone have any experience with Linux/Ubuntu shares?

But if you were using Endpoint, for example, and your account has permission to write to the NAS, then you would check the "this share requires credentials" and put in your account. For Veeam B&R, I create a separate account for Veeam_Service and give that permission to the shares I want it to write to.
