Veeam Backup & Replication leverages vSphere and vStorage APIs that VMware disables in free ESXi. Solution Install a VMware license that provides vSphere and vStorage APIs.
12.06.2020 · As already mentioned above, there are no issues with running the Veeam B&R virtual machine on top of a free ESXi. The only little point I would add here is that you obviously cannot back up the Veeam B&R virtual machine itself. Thus I would recommend you make sure you regularly backup Veeam B&R configuration.
