To collect backup files that belong to inactive backup chains from the performance extents and move them to the capacity tier, Veeam Backup & Replication uses an offload session which is executed automatically every 4 hours. Imported backups cannot be offloaded to capacity tier.

We have laptops we would love to use Veeam Agents for, but it's a dead end since the agent does the merging of backup files, which kills our company WiFi.

Nov 16, 2021 · During the offload session, Veeam Backup & Replication will collect the actual blocks of data from all the backup files (VBK and VIB) and offload these blocks to the object storage repository. Each offloaded block might be of different size, which is defined during configuring storage optimization.

Jun 05, 2020 · The Offload method for capacity tier moves the raw data from your local backups to the capacity tier. As shown in our above example, this only works for inactive backup files in your chain. However, once these inactive backup chains are moved, it frees up your local storage by transferring the backup data to the object storage repository.
