25.01.2020 · Re: root cannot start virt-manager. The difference is that when you use su - it drops all the user's environment variables and when you just use su it does not. That's dangerous for root since a user could set environment variables that allow them to get root to do stuff that it should not. CentOS 6 died in November 2020 - migrate to a new version!

Have xauth and xterm installed on the server. Have XMing running on the windows (client) machine. Run Putty with X11 forwarding (on client, connecting to server) Log in as root, or other privileged user (using Putty from client) Execute virt-manager on the server. It should bring up a separate dialog in Xming on the client showing virt-manager.
