I would like the App and DB Server Replica's to be as in sync with each other as possible - ie replicated at exactly the same time, if possible. - not sure if Veeam supports cross-VM consistency groups. This isn't supported by vSphere Replication.

Jan 23, 2015 · Unlike VMware replication Veeam takes advantage of multiple restore points. For every replica, Veeam Backup & Replication creates and maintains a configurable number of restore points. If the original VM fails for any reason, you can temporary or permanently fail over to a replica and restore critical services with minimum downtime.
As Sam has said, nothing replaces a backup. Ever. With that, not your setup but in my hyper v environment I replicate all vms and back up nightly. Reply.
20.05.2016 · 05-25-2016 11:00 AM. VR supports MPIT (Multiple Point in Time) snapshots. It is able to take/retain up to 24 on a flexible schedule. They are maintained as snapshots on the target site. After the VM is recovered they appear as a snapshot tree and the VM can be rolled back to one or the snapshots can be consolidated.

The VR’s main improvements is the VSS integration (through VMware Tools) and doesn’t merely request OS quiescence, but flushes app/db writers if present. Can create application consistent copies of entire VMs. It will do application aware processing.
