The VM is gone. It is no longer in the inventory. I am logged into the host directly which has a local drive with the datastore. The issue is there is a vmx.lck file that locks the vmx and vmdk file. I can't figure out how to unlock the files to add the VM back into the inventory. Thanks for the input.

I'd like to ask if this is a work around to be able to copy the vmdk file to another location. I plan to creating a copy of the VM without using a vcenter.
29.05.2015 · To resolve this issue I removed the VM from the inventory on both machines and then the vmx.lck file disappeared and I was able to re-add the VM back into inventory though vCenter. I hope this helps someone with their issue, sorry for the lack of pictures but if/when it happens again I will be sure to add it back in. at May 29, 2015.

I confirm that there is no "lck" file present in the VM's directory, then I attempt to expand the disk again. SAME MESSAGE.

When an ESXi/ESX host accesses a virtual machine disk file on a NFS based datastore a .lck-xxx lock file is generated in the same directory as the disk file.
