the belief that learning Arch is equal to learning Linux. The first two points are facts, the third one is only partially true: Arch is only one in the Linux distros, a pretty good one to be honest, however what allows one to make a living is the knowledge of the commercial grade distros, which are pretty far from Arch.

They use base arch repos unlike manjaro. Arco even have installers for window managers. I am recommending arco to newbies instead of arch. Once you get used to arch and you want more control on your installation, you can learn arch. Besides arco linux is just arch with fancy installers and desktop environments. Arch is light, you install just "your" minimun, it's a rolling release, you have always the last version of your applications, there are great community and great wiki (imo the best on internet), there are also minor inconvenients, sometimes new apps comes with new bugs (but you can reinstall the previous version) etc etc etc, If you're a "real" novice with Linux, Arch is maybe not for you ...

I chose arch for a previous machine because I wanted to learn more about how linux works under the hood. I wanted the opposite of just letting Ubuntu install itself and then running things from gnome.

Try Manjaro's XFCE edition. It's Arch with an installer, setup programs, and they curate updates, so Manjaro doesn't break on you.
