Arch is light, you install just "your" minimun, it's a rolling release, you have always the last version of your applications, there are great community and great wiki (imo the best on internet), there are also minor inconvenients, sometimes new apps comes with new bugs (but you can reinstall the previous version) etc etc etc, If you're a "real" novice with Linux, Arch is maybe not for you ...

I chose arch for a previous machine because I wanted to learn more about how linux works under the hood. I wanted the opposite of just letting Ubuntu install itself and then running things from gnome.
