Update: They sent me another email saying that they looked over the info I provided and it does match and therefore changed my email address associated with my albion account. When they told me they would not change it, I went to paypal to initiate a chargeback.
I have emailed Albion Online support to see if I can get an answer from them but it seems really strange that people are unable to change the primary email address of the account they created (there must be a decent reason for this, perhaps to stop people trading accounts in the first place but it is certainly quite annoying).

May 22, 2018 · Although it is not possible to change account-related details like your account email, your email provider should have a setting that would enable you to forward Albion Online emails. If you opt for this route, you will want to set up emails from newsletter@albiononline.com and accounts@albiononline.com to be re-directed.
