The updater never worked and is they cannot keep their firmware up to date well enough to use it, I need to just return this right away and buy something that is reliable and does not work me to death trying to use software they released that is sub par.

If the icon is there, then RIGHT-click it, slide your mouse to the line that says "Launch Bose Updater webpage" and LEFT-click it. That should open up a new browser window that looks like this: Choose your Sub1/Sub2 from the list of products in the upper right.
