TX Power? : DDWRT - reddit

Id' like to understand what "TX Power" actually means and what the setting does, because something seems weird: On the router's main page, many current status data show up, including: Tx Power: 16 dBm. However, if I go to Wireless -> Advanced Settings I get "Tx Power" as an option filled with 23 dBm. Seems contradictory.

04.03.2020 · The optimal Tx-power is the LOWEST that's still adequate for your needs. Better to reduce electrosmog than to increase it. I've reduced the Tx-power of my own router to 5, by the way. On my laptops I've reduced the Tx-power of the wireless chipsets to 5 as well (only possible in Linux, as far as I know). Fine for my needs.

04.06.2011 · Transmit (Tx) power on newer DD-WRT firmware is already set at an optimum level of 71mW. However, I am aware that some older firmware versions were lower than this. Check to see what your transmission power is set at by visiting the Wireless –> Advanced Settings page under the title TX Power .

27.05.2016 · I have experimented with many routers using DD-WRT setting up long distance wireless links, and honestly I have not noticed much gain raising the TX from the stock output to the limit of 251mw. 08.05.2011 · dd-wrt max is 251 wm I believe. However, no matter what you set.. the radio will do no more than it is capable of. ... which of course is exactly what anyone with half a brain would want. More tx power increases noise and normally does not help with overall wifi performance because a) wifi is bi-directional and b) noise is bad.

13.08.2019 · I've read on the forum that tx power is hard coded but I'm not sure if it's hard coded to max out based on u.s.regulations or specific to the region bought. Basically I'm trying to work out if DD wrt will help me with WiFi range before installing and loosing my settings because it's terrible on stock firmware. Big thanks for everyone's help.
