no reason to ever use flatpak if a native (aur) version is available 6 level 2 eXoRainbow · 6m If there is a conflict with another package, then a Flatpak could be the rescue. Also Flatpak is sandboxed at little and are a bit safer, if the AUR author and package is brand new and you don't trust him much.

Mar 09, 2021 · Most of the time, there is no need to use Flatpak at all. Most software, especially if free and open source, is available on the AUR. The AUR has the advantage that it is a fully transparent system. You build the package on your machine, so you can know where the software is sourced from and exactly what goes into the package. That’s very safe.

27.09.2016 · AUR is faster than PPAs but when the compiling is long it isn't. RPMFusion is faster, but it has not as many packages as PPAs and AUR. Flatpack and snaps are the new cross distros package systems. So if AUR can migrate or make a version for flatpack / snap would serve the entire GNU/Linux community (AUR already can be used in RPM distros)

Installing a package via AUR vs. flatpak. To me, the choice for proprietary apps is pretty straightforward. I'd rather a program like Spotify be sand-boxed because I don't know what it's doing under the hood, so I download it from flatpak. But for something like Signal, the choice, to me, is less clear.
