Both gnome-tweak-tool and Cinnamon settings have a "None, Grayscale, RGBA" setting. The RGBA setting has no effect in LMDE (text is grayscale smoothed) but works in Debian Testing and Mint 12 Lisa (text is subpixel smoothed). non-portable

So I have noticed that the font rendering in the Gnome DE under Arch linux doesn't yield a sharp image even when anti-aliasing is set to sub pixel in gnome tweaks. Also, I doubt you will ever get it looking exactly the same because I think Ubuntu tweaks the rendering a bit, though that may not be the case anymore.
