07.05.2019 · I have some Debian 9 servers and ubuntu servers running on Hyper-V. The Debian servers perform as expected with dynamic memory and jump around between 512mb and 2gb of memory. My ubuntu servers seem to jump straight to the max memory available about 15seconds after a reboot. I believe it's all in cache but I'm not an expert in Linux.

I found that MS gives out Hyper-V server for free, so I decided I'd give it a try. So, while going through the documentation, I read about the dynamic memory feature. My understanding is that it dynamically reduces the memory allocated to the VM when it is not being used, so that the host can have more memory available for other tasks and VMs.

31.05.2019 · Hi. I remember that Dynamic Memory was not supported with Linux in the earlier days but I decided that I might give it a go on Debian 9 (based on kernel 4.9) and the upcoming 10 (based on 4.19) on our Hyper-V hosts that are running 2012 R2.
