15.01.2013 · Hyper-V cannot fully compact a VHD that contain the OS. If it was a secondary data storage disk only, then it can compact. So by attaching it onto another VM, it is recognized as a secondary disk. When you run compact disk, it remove the empty space on the VHD.

I had originally set the size of the dynamic disk to 40 GB but soon learned that wasn't large enough and expanded it to 110 GB.
