I've been reading posts about Manjaro not having an adequate security team, that their update scripts are insecure, etc. As someone who uses proprietary software (kill me) such as Discord, Steam, and Spotify, the pacman/yaourt combo is more convenient than any other distro I've run.

Manjaro - secure? safe? I am curious what the take of the community is on Manjaro? With failing to renew and fix its SSL more than twice now and that since May, I seriously wonder whether the Manjaro team has a flair for security and privacy.

The only thing you risk is the computer breaking after an update, so mabey wait to update and look up on forums if the update has broken anything.

Manjaro is based on a rolling release distribution called Arch. The thing about rolling release is getting the updates as soon as they are out, whereas Manjaro holds them back for a week without a good reason. They don't check them, do anything with them but instead hold them back. It has had many issues that you wouldn't have had on Arch.

If you read the Manjaro forum you'll see that some people do manage to end up with a broken system after updates, but personally I've never had anything but very minor problems when I've installed an update. Though I always take a complete system backup before and after every update just to be on the safe side.

How safe would it be to also run manjaro on my work machine? Can the system break upon updating in to a state where it can't be used at all?
