When subjected to aerodynamic heating, polymer matrix composites pyrolyze and release gases. Simultaneously, it turns into three layers: the virgin layer, the pyrolysis layer, and the char layer. According to the pyrolysis layer model presented here, ambient pressure influences the thermal response of polymer matrix composites.
