Jan 17, 2017 · I also had the same issue, I was running the lightdm-webkit2-greeter-next and when webkit2gtk updated it caused the same issue. I downgraded to 2.14.2-2 and everything is working normally again.

There is one annoying problem: lightdm (but also sddm and lxdm) stucks on boot, leaving a black screen with a static cursor.

Jan 20, 2019 · The last step is to install/reconfigure lightdm. apt-get purge lightdm apt-get install lightdm. During the installation process, a window will pop up and ask you to choose between gdm3 and lightdm. Choose lightdm for this and hard reboot when done.
