Both linear algebra and differential equations are used in quantum mechanics, too. But one doesn't apply to the other. My freshman math class was actually ...
If you like proofs and abstract mathematical thinking, you will probably enjoy linear algebra more than DiffEq and do better with it. If you can't write proofs ...
Essential concepts to know for Differential Equations and Linear Algebra (Also Calculus D)? TOPIC I'm taking these three at the same time in my upcoming quarter and want to be prepared.
Our differential equations course made use of linear algebra to solve systems of differential equations. Linear algebra is a first year course here. Didnt find anything particularly challenging about it (didn't get the best mark, due in part to the fact that it was a 'math' course rather than 'solve problems' course).
In terms of difficulty, differential equations is definitely the easiest if you have good calculus foundation. Linear algebra would be second as long as you can handle visualizing matrixes(table of numbers) in your head.
Honestly I think even Linear Algebra is harder than Diff. Eq. And I mean "real" Linear Algebra with proofs and all the abstract concepts, not just matrix algebra. Partial Diff. Eqs. on the other hand gets pretty hard and is one of the more difficult math classes I've taken. 5 Continue this thread level 2 · 4 yr. ago
Linear algebra is broadly very useful when dealing with large systems of equations and some geometry. It even pops up in certain differential equations. And if you ever study computational chemistry, advanced linear algebra is quite important since it is a key component in how approximate solutions are obtained to the Schrödinger equation.
Linear algebra has application to a lot of math while differential equations is not needed. 2. level 1. [deleted] · 4y · edited 4y. I would say that, regardless of what the course outlines say, Linear Algebra should be thought of as an unofficial pre-requisite for a Differential Equations course.

Differential equations are both challenging objects at a mathematical level and crucial in many ways for engineers. In addition, linear algebra methods are an essential part of the methodology commonly used in order to solve systems of differential equations.
having taken both classes simultaneously, Differential equations basically felt like linear algebra for engineers. I took multivariable calculus before those ...
Linear algebra vs. Differential equations Which math Will be more helpful to understand OR - an advanced linear algebra class or a class on differential equations + fourier and power series? I know this a general question, but I’m guessing it’s the first one?
Engineering Math vs Differential Equations & Linear Algebra. If I’m interested in pursuing data science, would e-math be worth it? Also, what was y’alls experience in these courses? What’s the course intensity and workload like? 2 comments. share. save. hide. report. 100% Upvoted.
Linear algebra is easier but it's actually related. At some point you re-enter Diff Eq and find that systems of Diff Eqs can be solved with linear algebra by extending the concept in real/complex variables to matrix variables. 1 Reply Share ReportSave level 1 · 8 yr. ago
Answer (1 of 8): While it depends on the individual student and classes, I would guess that on average Linear Algebra is much easier; that was my experience. It was by far the easiest math class I took at MIT, but it can be done at many different levels. One …

Linear Algebra + Differential Equations vs. Linear Algebra AND Differential equations What are the benefits of taking the two courses separately or taking both together in the combined class? My main concerns are that I would rather take as few courses as I can (trying to double major), but I would still want to be well prepared for future classes (BME major here), since I know both …
