Oracle Linux 7.2 (which is almost 1:1 from RHEL7.2) no errors, etc. I have checked commands executed in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc and has found that default (!!!!) window manager /usr/bin/twm file is not present in system (despite "Server with GUI" was selected as installation option).

14.01.2011 · Fixing Grey Screen with Putty/VNC client login. I was also getting a blank grey screen when I logged in through VNC. I got this working by editing the ~/.vnc/xstartup file: I commented out the 2nd and 3rd lines, then the normal desktop appeared. I also changed the Desktop Manger to Gnome in the last line.

My xstartup is very basic: #!/bin/bash startxfce4 & but it worked well before! Nevertheless, I tried to change it according to various solutions found on the web, but still I get the grey screen.
