18.03.2020 · But, I thought “erase disk” was the simplest option. It blows away the partition table, starts fresh with a new one. I don’t know why it wasn’t available to you. Maybe it’s related to the drive-descriptor block-size mismatch you mentioned (reported from gparted command). Maybe the Calamares installer didn’t know how to deal with that.
Installs replacing a partition may fail with this bug. As a workaround; reboot, use KDE Partition Manager to delete the ‘unknown’ partition that exists, create the partition using the format you want (ext4, btrfs & xfs were tested & worked), deactivate swap partitions & exit KDE Partition Manager. Calamares can then use the prepared partition.

You will also need a root (/) file-system, several file-systems included for Lubuntu are Ext4, XFS, and Btrfs. If you have a new hard disc or solid state drive press the New Partition table button but this will delete the whole disc if you have any data on it.

If dual booting with windows than shrink the hard drive and then install next to Windows and just follow the prompts. Lubuntu installs just as Ubuntu does from a Live USB or Live DVD.
