In attempt to execute the plan I installed trial version of VMware Workstation 15, but I quickly realised that I have no option to import VM using .vbm & .vbk files. After a quick research I found out that Workstation is not compatible with .vbm & .vbk files.

Jun 12, 2019 · I went with Duncan's suggestion and used Veeam Extract Utility. Worked like a charm. I extracted .vmdk file from .vbm. Then I have created a diskless VM in the Workstation and pointed the it to the extracted .vmdk file. I then was able to run the VM using the .vmdk file. I uninstalled unnecessary stuff from the guest OS and removed old files.
