The workload depends on the number of users connected to VPN and Nextcloud, and of course their activity. If you are the only user, there should be no problem.

Nextcloud is slow, especially true for users who is using low-end hardware setup like Raspberry Pi and need to manage a large collection of photos. There must be some fundamental limitations in the software itself I guess which are not easily solved or not on Nextcloud's priority list. But we are techies, aren't we? We solve problem by ourselves.
