I am using Arch Linux (GDM v41.0+r15+g23ebe617) and nvidia driver v495.46 with modesetting enabled on a optimus laptop.There is no wayland session option in gdm. Wayland session is visible again and works fine if I delete the 61-gdm.rules file.. I did some troubleshooting of my own and it seems that the only line in the file causing the issue is line 22:

Spifmeister. · 1y. Gnome supports EGLStreams, so Nvidia will work with Gnomes Wayland composer. What currently does not work is accelerated Xwayland. Some clouds on the horizon for Nvidia users. It is my understand that Firefox VAAPI only supports GBM supported drivers and does not support Nvidia’s EGLStreams.

Apr 29, 2021 · I did a quick test, ran nvidia-xrun gnome-session and glxinfo|egrep "OpenGL vendor|OpenGL renderer" showed Nvidia. It is indicative of the required steps to have NVIDIA GPU drive a display server, which is probably going to be conceptually analogous for Wayland, at least in terms of dealing with the hardware.

Fedora 35 Wayland works amazing without the NVIDIA driver, but once installed, it's buggy Fedora 35, the way it comes after install, running Wayland with the open source GPU drivers is amazing! So incredibly smooth and everything works!
