Most Chromecast support pages mention enabling UPnP and Multicast. Besides that, the Chromecast just sits on the network until it's needed.

The devices are approximately 50 feet from each other, one hop. The problem I'm having is making the Chromecast(s) work properly; seeing a Chromecast as available on devices and casting isn't working perfectly; sometimes we can't see the Chromecast, sometimes we can and it works, but then we later lose control(s).
