In OpenWrt when you disable the primary network, the secondary network BSSID changes to the previous BSSID of the primary network. This will break WDS, but clients typically won’t care. By having the clients connect to the secondary network, the client network can be disabled without breaking the WDS connection between the two routers.

WDS would only be used to bridge two networks via WiFi. Install WPAD (full) and use 802.11r with Mobility domains. This is still a client based roam, but works better thanks to pre-auth. Just give both APs same SSID/PSK and channel with a mobility domain configured. If you can't get full wpad, you can use soft roaming.

The MR3420 is running OpenWRT Rooter firmware and its IP is 192.168.1.1. In a normal circumstance it would be the router supplying internet to your network.
