Actually, most of routers cannot activate hardware acceleration when using openwrt firmware. Because openwrt is using opensource driver. opensourced drivers doesn’t contain acceleration feature. The only exception is mt7621a driver. You will see hardware accleration (offloading) check box, but it’s not working actually!

Nowadays, I stick with gargoyle based on OPENWRT, but overclock the router cpu to 800 mhz. Best would be to run a low power x86 PC, much less hassle and no cpu limitation.
