I've already tried to setup OpenVPN and PPTP servers with success, but want to try L2TP because it's well integrated into iOS (i'm using an iPhone) and way more secure than PPTP. Everything else (PPTP, IPsec IKEv1+xauth, L2TP/IPsec IKEv1, TUN/TAP based TLS VPN)in my opinion is obsolete and should not be used for new deployments. IKEv2 is built-in to any modern OS. It is supported in Android as well using the Strongswan app.
