I'm not an expert in this area, but I think if you're looking for 10+ ports you're starting to go beyond the scale of what OpenWrt is trying to do. I think it's very likely you'll be better served by having a separate switch (a managed switch if you need VLANs) and a gateway machine running something like pfSense with ordinary x86 hardware as your OpenWrt stand-in.
Set up OpenWRT as Ethernet Switch. : openwrt

Hello, I want to set up my old router that is currently running OpenWRT to act like a Ethernet Switch. I have an ethernet switch but it has issues and does not work correctly. I have tried looking online and see people doing it via wireless and changing the IP that it distributes but I want this to basically extend my main network over ethernet like a switch.

05.11.2021 · You can check the OpenWrt tech page for your router. You can run the following SSH command on your device to find out ls -l /sys/class/net. Newer devices with embedded switches (like Netgear R7800) use the DSA switch driver, that creates a distinct network interface for each switch port as if they didn't have a switch at all.
#11779 (WDR4300 - hardware nat feature) – OpenWrt
https://dev.archive.openwrt.org/ticket/11779
OpenWRT is not meant just to drive <=50Mbps internet links. So, the more effective the firmware, the better the product. On the other hand I would say that if you need gigabit routing (usually in an "enterprise grade network"), the the WDR4300/WDR4900 it's not the right product. There's no hardware NAT in any OpenWRT platform (so far).

09.11.2021 · OpenWrt configures the switch by default with a management VLAN ID 100 on the LAN, so be sure to set up your client with VLAN 100 to be able to connect to the switch. If you would like a 'clean' /etc/config/network without VLANs (replace macaddr values by your own!), you can start with the configuration below.

I've also been looking for a higher port switch to manage with OpenWRT (or really anything open and text based). In the meantime, the Archer C7's which are really popular here have a 5 port switch (actually more, because the CPU has ports on the switch too).
Setup VLAN on OpenWRT using hardware that has no switch ...

Using 802.1q in OpenWRT is very difficult when working on a device that doesn’t have a built-in switch or the when the switch chipset isn’t supported. Creating VLANS is not possible via the web interface (luci) or using the “config switch_port” options in /etc/config/network. The Luci web gui will not have the “Network -> Switch” option available.
