Jan 08, 2018 · I use a 16 GB pendrive that has OpenWRT installed with the SquashFS file system sometimes, in order to revert to the default state. Other times I use Ext4. I made my own firmware with the packages I need with Image Builder.

For x86 use the same image you used to install OpenWrt as a sysupgrade image as well. So if you installed OpenWrt x86-64 openwrt-version-number-x86-64-combined-ext4.img.gz you need to choose same image to do a sysupgrade if you installed Openwrt with openwrt-version-number-x86-64-combined-squashfs.img.gz you need that image to do a firmware upgrade.

May 30, 2019 · Sysupgrade function of x86 works on both squashfs and ext4. There are only differences of factory reset or failsafe. On x86, there are enough of alternative solutions on ext4 builds for such purposes. I constantly sysupgrade my ext4 snapshot builds since the days of LEDE 17.0. Judging from your serial output, it's all about broken partition table.
