Openwrt is concentrating on replacing the stock fw of consumer routers so id say pfsense would be better. pfSense have some pretty fundamental issues when it comes to their developers, alienating outside help.

Jan 18, 2020 · Howdy folks, I'm running some tests on OPNSense 19.7.9_1-amd64 vs PFSense 2.4.4-RELEASE-p3 (amd64) - both of them are running as virtual machines on the same host with no tuning but all patches applied. All I'm doing is installing iperf3 and running it in server mode for the tests, here are the results: OPNsense: % iperf3 -c 172.16.160.204

Explanation: speedtest depends on libidn2 library that might not be available on OPNsense and should be installed from a known/trusted repo. Os-speedtest-devel package is not yet in repo, it needs to be installed directly with pkg add (instead of pkg install ) - kinda sideloading a package to BSD without an appstore.

It has been running flawlessly ever since. I like the frequent updates and the friendly forum, all thing sorely missing in the other *sense.

23.08.2019 · OPNSense. For the most part, OPNSense and pfSense performed mostly identically, to the point where it’s almost not worth the posting the results. But I will. I will point out that I was able to get FRR going in about 20 seconds on OPNSense. Whereas on pfSense after hacking around with it for 20 minutes I still couldn’t get it running.
