What is Post Harvesting Management ? • Post Harvest Management includes the processes done immediately after harvesting the produce, including cooling, cleaning, sorting and packing. The instant a crop is removed from the ground, or separated from its parent plant, it begins to deteriorate.

This includes the areas of postharvest storage, treatments and underpinning mechanisms, quality evaluation, packaging, handling and distribution of fresh horticultural crops including fruit, vegetables, flowers and nuts, but excluding grains, seeds and forages.

Postharvest physiology and technology has been key to maintaining and extending the shelf-life of perishables and reducing food losses. However, postharvest losses are still significant and reduction of such losses would be the easiest, less costly, and most effective method instead of increasing food production ( Pedreschi et al., 2013a ).
