14.05.2020 · I have a 3 node cluster with two nodes running on ZFS and one on EXT4. I'd like to change the third node to ZFS, but that node is running my VMs/containers currently. I'm not sure of the best path to take. I've tried migrating my vms/containers to the other nodes but i only have local storage on...
18.12.2019 · Installing Proxmox 4.x. Once you've backed up your machine, go ahead and burn the Proxmox 4.x ISO to a DVD or USB stick. Before we go any further, I'll explain the partition layout we're going for: 120GB Corsair SSD - Base OS install on EXT4 partition + 8GB ZFS log partition + 32GB ZFS cache partition
Originally I was going to use EXT4 on KVM til I ran across ProxMox (and ZFS). I figured my choices were to either manually balance the drive usage (1 Gold for direct storage/backup of the M.2 drive, 1 Gold for Movies, and 3 reds with the TV Shows balanced appropriately, figuring less usage on them individually) --or-- throwing 1x Gold in and Raid 0ing / 5ing 5x of the Red NAS …
ZFS gives you snapshots, flexible subvolumes, zvols for VMs, and if you have something with a large ZFS disk you can use ZFS to do easy backups to it with native send/receive abilities. Ext4 has a more robust fsck and runs faster on low-powered systems. It has zero protection against bit rot (either detection or correction).
31.08.2020 · I only use ext4 when someone was clueless to install XFS. ;-) Proxmox install handles it well, can install XFS from the start. (To be honest we also extensively use ceph in clustered environment [rbd mapped or not, cephfs and object store a bit less] and it is a dream come true, reliable as hell (and believe me: hell seems to be the only sure point in this universe ; …
If i am using ZFS with proxmox, then the lv with the lvm-thin will be a zfs pool. So the rootfs lv, as well as the log lv, is in each situation a normal ext4. Thats my way to handle it - just a suggestion. Do you store huge masses of data with e.g. much duplicate files? Then ZFS is your filesystem - otherwise you should choose lvm-thin with ext4.
Aug 30, 2019 · Hit Options and change EXT4 to ZFS (Raid 1). As you can see all the disks Proxmox detects are now shown and we want to select the SSDs of which we want to create a mirror and install Proxmox onto. Set all the others to “– do not use –“. Then we want to do a little tweaking in the advanced options. Only change compression from on to LZ4.

I have managed to install and configure 3 VMs with Proxmox. I initially opted for an ext4 filesystem but realized that zfs is vastly superior, especially since I have some spare room on my hdd. If possible, I would like to convert my ext4 filesystem to zfs.
