I have a Netgear R8000 and I'm trying out other firmwares like DD-WRT and OpenWRT. The problem in OpenWRT is my WiFi don't appear in the Network menu. I tried both the stable and the daily build, and I installed a bunch of packets with opkg, but it simply doesn't work.

Apr 21, 2019 · There is a patch for OpenWRT that fixes the version number issue. So you can build a patched version for the R8000, or you can build a stripped down patched version that will then let you install the version linked above. I'm running OpenWRT on my R8000. The biggest hurdle is getting past Netgear's attempt to stop you from installing "older" firmware.

As of OpenWrt 19.07, the R8000 can be flashed to OpenWrt through the stock web UI. From the 'Firmware Downloads' tab above, download the most recent 'install' build of OpenWrt (as of this writing, openwrt-19.07.1-bcm53xx-netgear-r8000-squashfs.chk) Connect your computer to the router via wired ethernet.

22.08.2014 · The R8000 works brilliantly with teh DD-WRT firmware. My only critisism is that the WPS funtion doesn't seem to work in the first release. Hopefully this will come in future. As a word of warning the hidemyass configuration script for open VPN doesn't work.
