I'm scoping out a project where we'll be placing a couple of Synology NAS's as backup repositories. I've read about using Minio inside of a container (Docker) running on the NAS and have a theory that we could use that setup to leverage data immutability using local storage for those clients that are cloud adverse.

To lose my backups, I'd need to have Wasabi data compromised and lose physical access to my local Synology's at the same time. So, I feel good about the odds with this setup and it's relatively simple. I've posted this a few times before but haven't gotten any feedback, most don't seem to care about having an immutable backup.

Jun 30, 2021 · A possible workaround here could be spawning a supported Linux virtual machine (Ubuntu?) alongside your Veeam B&R virtual server and mount your Synology inside that virtual machine over iSCSI as a pure block device. That will give you an immutable backups setup.
