Nov 10, 2021 · For spinning disk array performance, TrueNAS is hard to beat. Unraid falls pretty flat on its face in this category, only using a single spindle. However, Unraid has the ability to cache reads and writes with NVMe storage, which greatly minimizes this issue.

Unraid is a paid storage operating system. Unraid software runs with Unraid OS device. It bases on three levels. Level one costs $ 59, level two costs $ 89, and level 3 costs $ 129. I hate to break it to you, but it is unlikely that unraid, truenas, or anything storage/disk related is/was causing buffering. Especially if you see your cpus maxed out, it sounds like plex was transcoding 4k (for whatever reason).

Rob, you could. use the empty 6 drives to create a 6-drive Z2 VDEV in a pool on your TrueNAS server. transfer the data from unRaid server to TrueNAS server via ethernet. buy two more drives. add a second 6-drive VDEV (4 remaining drives from unRAID server plus two new ones) to the TrueNAS pool.

Truenas is a bloated (id recommend its offshoot, xigmanas): but being zfs will protect your data, not just your disk.
