S3 Storage for NAS Backups is only for older or deleted versions of the NAS Files in the current implementation of the Feature. Not for current Backups. More like an archive.

I managed to add an S3 bucket to capacity tearing but something is ... Are they primary Veeam backup jobs or are they copy backup jobs?

With Veeam 9.5 uploading/offloading to the cloud tier will only happen for inactive backup chains of primary backup jobs. Copy backup jobs without GFS settings never have inactive backup chains, and therefore will never get offloaded to the cloud.

"copy jobs never have inactive chains and therefore will never get offloaded"--- This is true on a normal copy job, but it becomes false if you enable GFS retention settings in your copy job. If you for example set the offloading to 1 days, and then you go enable 4 weeklies in GFS, then each time a weekly is made that is a sealed backup itself, so that weekly will be offloaded.

01.10.2021 · Veeam Backup for AWS assigns the selected storage class (S3 Glacier or S3 Glacier Deep Archive) to backups stored in the repository. That is why the archived backups remain in Amazon S3 and cannot be accessed directly through the Amazon S3 Glacier service. Depending on your configuration, you can connect to existing repositories or deploy new ones.

27.05.2020 · We're running latest version 9.5 update 4. Having a look at Veeam there is a copy job process, this looks to be what we need which would run in addition to daily VM/SQL and file backup jobs. I've tried to create a bucket in S3 an add this both as a backup repository and external repository and neither does the trick.
