There is no way to only restore files from the last backup set. By default, Veeam attempts to restore all files that have existed in a directory. It was recommended to me to spin up another Veeam server with a separate database only for the purpose of restoring file to tape. This way Veeam only understands what is on the tape you catalog.

We've had Veeam for a few months now and everything has been working well but I'm trying to figure out how to do a restore from tape of a single VM guest file without spending days restoring the entire VM backup first. Is this possible? Currently I'm doing a backup to disk and then a copy of that backup to file.

If the tapes are online in your tape device, Veeam Backup & Replication will get the needed data automatically. If the tapes are offline, Veeam Backup & Replication will list the names of the required tapes.
20.02.2015 · We've recentely switched to Veeam Back-up and Replication Enterprise for our back-up. The last 14 days are stored on disk on our back-up server. Very easy to restore from this volume. My issue starts however when I try to restore an older file from tape. Our repository is offloaded to tape.

18.09.2018 · What my script does is just auto-mate the process for a one-off job run, it starts the FLR, creates a tape job with the mount points, and starts the tape job. Really, I'd love for Veeam to incorporate this as an actual function, as it's the easiest way to make a proper File Tape-out job for many servers.
