To clean up all unused disk space, set DisableDeleteNotify to zero and run either in Command Prompt "defrag C: /L /V" or in PowerShell "Optimize-Volume C -ReTrim -Verbose" (replace volume label with your own). It usually runs usually within a few minutes even on big filesystems.

I deleted a 7TB backup and it never gave that space back to the repository or even on the windows filesystem side. We are using ReFS on server 2016. SOLUTION (Veeam Response): Perhaps zeroed out isn't the right term. The blocks should be marked to not be included in the next backup. So as retention applies this data should be left off.
