So I found out that if you install VEEAM on a separate physical server, and don't use the HotAdd option for file transfer, it doesn't install any kind of agent on the guest VM's. I'm not sure exactly how it communicates, I'm guessing SSH with the host.

From Veeam B&R server side you can also try to use the host name instead of IP address (if admin share via host name works correctly that would be a good thing to try).

This should work, however in this case if you deploy VMs from a single template you will have to change it to avoid duplicates. Alternative option would be to generate our own unique id before agent installation, if no other suitable id has been found.
Nov 23, 2021 · I would open the windows firewall on the hyperv, connect the hyperv to veeam and close the firewall again after successfull configuration. For veeam Agent, that always works for me. The necessary ports are open after the agent installation and enabled windows firewall. Could work for HyperV too.
