What happens if cancel a disk consolidation? I have a virtual machine that has asked me to consolidate the disks. It had 3 snapshots (3TB each) so the disk consolidation barely reached 3% in 24hs. This is not normal. I would like to know, what happens if I cancel this disk consolidation to delete all snapshots?

Storage space is cleaned after you consolidate virtual machine disk files. Remember that VMware recommends using no more than 32 snapshots per VM.

30.08.2020 · I hope I won't have to do that, but it really depends on that storage becoming available. run hexdump -C against all the flat.vmdks - it is absolutely possible that a valid flat basedisk uses missguiding names and descriptorfiles. I will try that, but I'm 100% positive that this disk is not a snapshot disk.

Nov 01, 2020 · First, right-click on the virtual machine and select VM >> Snapshots >> Consolidate. Then a window with the below request appears. Here, click on Yes to confirm that you want to delete the redundant logs. As a result, the vCenter will consolidate disks and clear the logs.

23.08.2021 · Fix VMware Error: Virtual Machine Disks Consolidation Needed. Virtual machines in VMware vSphere have many advantages. They work reliably with high performance if the appropriate hardware is used and the right software configuration is applied.
I've been playing around with ESXi/vCenter 6.5 and I'm noticing that when I initiate snapshot deletion or consolidation against a VM, I can actually right click and send a cancel request. I don't recall this being the case in prior versions; typically the option is grayed out for tasks that can't be stopped once it starts.
