Feb 25, 2020 · Manjaro 19.0 is out today as this popular desktop-focused Arch Linux based distribution that is focused on its Xfce desktop spin but also offers other desktop options. Manjaro 19.0 makes use of Xfce 4.14 paired with a new theme while KDE Plasma 5.17 and GNOME 3.34 are offered as other desktop options for this Arch-based platform.
So, with the long dev cycle of XFCE, it will be quite a while before wayland support. But this may prove beneficial to XFCE anyway, as wayland is still in heavy development hence is a moving target. 09.02.2021 · I have installed the minimum version of Manjaro XFCE in an old computer, and am happy with the results. I have noticed that it is using X.Org, but Wayland libraries are also installed.. I don’t need Wayland at the moment, and would like to remove it completely to save hard disk space and also some internet bandwidth during updates.

20.09.2021 · IDK, last Manjaro I used was 19 IIRC and their XFCE looked awful IMO. Someone recently showed me a screenshot of their Gnome DE and it looked really good. Ironically for me, XFCE default looks decent in Debian's preconfig, but Gnome looks hideous. Of course that is preference, too.

I saw an analysis some guy had done that shows that the X protocol is 10 times the size of Wayland, and we only use 10% of it anymore anyway. However, in order to actually "support X", a display server needs to support every function in the protocol.
