dont. unraid is hobby level. it has zero redundancy. It looks fancy but i would never ever trust it for anything remotely mission critical. With proxmox you have lxc and that is far more powerful and easy to use than docker. 7 level 2 ElectronFactory · 1 yr. ago Unraid works fine. The hatred for it …

Proxmox is better as a hypervisor, but unRAID does have the ability to add drives as you mentioned you want. If this is primarily a hypervisor, I'd do Proxmox. If this is primarily a file server, look at unRAID. 3 level 2 aliethel Op · 1y Thanks for the clear and concise recommendation.

Proxmox is free for home use, you can set up a cluster for the fun of it, whereas UnRAID is an upfront charge, upcharge when you add drives upcharge from the base price if you hit 7 drives and another upcharge if you hit 13, and it limits your ability to transfer to a new build recover the install media in case of multiple drive failures in a ...

Discussion. Hello everyone, I'm just getting into home servers and I'm really stuck on whether to use Proxmox or Unraid. I've watched many videos on the pros and cons of each. I'm waiting on parts for my server (just made a cheap one with an intel i5 10400) and agonizing over what software to use. I haven't come across the solution yet, but I ...

ZFS is miles better than Unraid's peudo-raid solution. The only downside is that Proxmox is a hypervisor only out of the box whereas Unraid is a NAS *and* a hypervisor. I've got Proxmox serving my files over NFS and Samba but you have to do it through the command like, not a web UI. 6 level 2 [deleted] · 1y

I will look into virtualizing unraid though thank you. I would suggest Proxmox, if you want an easy to use setup interface and web interface. And it uses the least amount of resources, AND its free. If you're looking at virtualization first, NAS second: it's Proxmox, imo.

Proxmox VS unRaid : VM CPU Performance. I am all for Proxmox, but I must say that I am tempted by unRaid for the builtin Docker management. I was watching a video of a guy who was demonstrating how to create a VM, and I noticed something right away : you can not use all the CPU cores for the VM. Proxmox or unRAID or something else? : HomeServer - reddit

All in all, I would highly recommend proxmox. I don’t have any Unraid exposure, so can not compare the platforms. I run a NAS, so unraid doesn’t really hold a ton of benefit for me. I do, however, have a good friend who runs a 4U home lab using it and it seems like both platforms accomplish basically the same thing, and do so with excellence.
