18.04.2020 · Hi, Recently I have been thinking of building a UNRAID box. As I was talking to someone, he introduced me to Proxmox (as I was trying to build a Nethserver, told me I could probably think of putting that inside Proxmox, would be easy to clone it, make backups, bring it back if something goes wron...
22.10.2019 · 2) Proxmox 2.1) Advantages a) Proxmox is primarily a virtualization platform, so you need to build your own NAS from the ground. This can be an advantage if you know and want to build everything from scratch, or not. YMMV. b) Proxmox is better than FreeNAS for virtualization due to the use of KVM, which seems to be much more flexible.
Proxmox is free for home use, you can set up a cluster for the fun of it, whereas UnRAID is an upfront charge, upcharge when you add drives upcharge from the base price if you hit 7 drives and another upcharge if you hit 13, and it limits your ability to transfer to a new build recover the install media in case of multiple drive failures in a single year.
ZFS is miles better than Unraid's peudo-raid solution. The only downside is that Proxmox is a hypervisor only out of the box whereas Unraid is a NAS *and* a hypervisor. I've got Proxmox serving my files over NFS and Samba but you have to do it …
All in all, I would highly recommend proxmox. I don’t have any Unraid exposure, so can not compare the platforms. I run a NAS, so unraid doesn’t really hold a ton of benefit for me. I do, however, have a good friend who runs a 4U home lab using it and it seems like both platforms accomplish basically the same thing, and do so with excellence.
22.06.2021 · I've setup proxmox and would like to use it to run and manage my VMs instead of unraid. I am using seabios and have matched the machine time when setting up a proxmox VM. I copied the unraid VM img file over to a directory/share that proxmox has access to now and it shows up under ISOs when selecting an image for the OS.
Proxmox runs all my network services and actual VMs and web sites. I find the VM management on Proxmox to be much better than Unraid. Unraid uses disks more efficiently/cheaply than ZFS on Proxmox. Each to its own strengths. Since you’ve already got the Synology for storage, Proxmox would be a better bet to manage your VMs imo.
dont. unraid is hobby level. it has zero redundancy. It looks fancy but i would never ever trust it for anything remotely mission critical. With proxmox you have lxc and that is far more powerful and easy to use than docker. 9. level 2. ElectronFactory. · …
