May 08, 2021 · When you go for a setup like this, it would be wise not to run virtual machines or containers inside Unraid (in fact, that won't work unless you enable nested virtualization). That's fine by me. I chose Proxmox because it's a lightweight hypervisor dedicated to running KVM VM's and LXC containers, nothing else.

Make sure to boot the unraid OS on your server without proxmox running, in other words, you can have proxmox installed, but boot from the key once to make sure it is going to work with your hardware. I went through three USB drives, even two of the same type, before I found one that would work!

If I do end up liking unraid, would I be better off running it on the server and just moving on from proxmox altogether?
