07.07.2020 · With VNC enabled in raspi-config, the graphical desktop on HDMI froze with the background image and pointer. SSH kept working, and VNC worked in virtual mode, but either didn't connect or showed a black screen in service mode. (I hope I'm understanding the difference correctly... 192.168.x.x was a black screen, 192.168.x.x:1 was a working desktop.)

15.11.2021 · The simplest rule for Bullseye (and rPI OS based on Bullseye) is "don't use the same user on the graphical console as for xrdp sessions". If you stick with that you should be OK. If you're using Raspberry PI OS, be careful with a restart and autologin, as (IIRC) the user pi will be logged in to the console automatically.

You can use sudo raspi-config or the GUI config tool to set the resolution that you want to use. Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated RPi OS Bullseye w/ Desktop OS.

Rather, there is a black border between the content on the screen and the display’s bezel. So annoying! The following is what fixed the problem for me on multiple Raspberry Pi’s and displays. I’m using the latest (as of this post) Raspbian Stretch October 2018 version.
