11.08.2021 · In DSM 7 the use of USB will be no longer supported for playback music with Audio Station or any other music app. I do not understand why. A few month ago a bought a brand new DS920+ especially for running Roon on it and playback music via USB. With the coming of DSM 7 this will not be possible anymore.
02.07.2021 · DSM 7 no longer supports USB devices, which is a remarkable move by Synology. After all, under the hood, DSM is just Linux that can natively handle things like TV sticks and other stuff. Indeed, compatibility with something like a USB Bluetooth or WiFi stick (as well as that aforementioned TV stick) were strong selling points for the systems a while back.
And in DSM 6.2 ttyACM0 (my Aeotec USB stick) shows up, while in DSM7.0 ttyACM0 is absent. Before anyone starts lecturing: it's a test Synology. I just want to know if anyone else spotted something similar and has any ideas if this is maybe a bug or by design.
12.11.2021 · USB devices (Wi-Fi dongle, Bluetooth dongle, 3G/4G dongle, USB DAC/speaker, and DTV dongle) are no longer supported. If your Synology NAS is currently connected via a wireless dongle, it will be disconnected after the update. I'm currently running DSM 7.0 Beta with an externel USB drive with no problems at all.

26.08.2021 · Upgrade DSM to v7.0. Before you can start - you will need to download the update from Synology. Synology DSM - Control Panel- Update & Restore. Once you downloaded the update, click on "Upgrade" and review the notices - you will see that they warn the discontinued support for USB devices. Fear not, and march forward!

Regarding your suggestion on USB audio support, we’ve confirmed in previous tests that the drivers in DSM 6.2 are not compatible to DSM 7.0, and due to the fact that most USB DAC/speaker vendors do not provide drivers compatible to Linux environment, we can only stop supporting USB audio devices in DSM 7.0.
