Modern SSDs - even consumer ones - will last years and NAND prices have fallen tremendously in just the past year. I would go for it! This will easily 5x the backup and restore times! One nice feature of Veeam is you can have multiple repositories configured. You can have a server with direct attached SSD as a target for recent backups/fulls/etc.

16.12.2021 · If I turn off Write Cache for each disk in the pool the iSCSI volume/LUN is located on, and format with ReFS, the issue does not occur (corruption is not detected by Veeam). So the issue seems to be ReFS + enabled Write Cache. Write Cache enabled + ReFS = corruption. Write Cache disabled + ReFS = no corruption.
